What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian government initiative to provide support to disabled people*, their families, and carers.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides financial support to eligible individuals with permanent impairments, plus their families and carers, to improve their quality of life and increase independence. Established in 2013, the NDIS aims to support the social and economic participation of disabled people through individualized packages of support called "plans". These packages cover a range of needs, such as daily personal activities, transportation, workplace assistance, therapeutic supports, household tasks, home modifications, and more.
*You'll see me using "Identity-first language" instead of "person-first language" throughout this site. CLICK HERE for a really simplified explanation as to what that means and why, but if you prefer something else, let me know.
Can my NDIS funding be used on
counselling or coaching?
Yes! As an Unregistered NDIS Provider I can support "Self Managed" and "Plan Managed" NDIS participants through counselling and coaching. Keep reading below to learn more.
How does it work?
Eligible NDIS participants can use their funding to see registered and unregistered NDIS providers.
First step is to check that you have the item ‘Improved Daily Living’ in your plan. Improved Daily Living provides funds to access a range of allied health professionals, including counsellors. The goal of counselling (through the NDIS) is to improve your capacity to live your and will generally involve setting some goals to work towards, and have regular (at least yearly) reviews of your progress.
Note:
It's important to note that right now, ADHD is almost never accepted for NDIS funding if it's the "primary diagnosis".
